False accusations of antisemitism

See enwiki and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Jewish well poisoning allegation source insertion.png and simple.

These files need to be removed because they are being used as part of a harrassment campaign, falsely accusing users of being antisemites without evidence or self-identification:

Polygnotus (talk) 01:08, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Delete these images. Complaints against other editors can be handled by standard processes in all wikis including en.wiki. Use of Commons for this purpose, when a diff would do as well, is not one of those processes. In my view it is a misuse of Commons and should not be allowed. Zero0000 (talk) 02:21, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Comment I would be in favor of speedy-deleting all of these as being out of scope, but I think we should give this at least 4 hours to play out to make sure we have something like a consensus here among admins. - Jmabel ! talk 03:03, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Question Could I open a mass deletion request for all of these files to be deleted all together? We can still adhere to the 4 hour time window as discussed. Sev6nWiki (talk) 04:27, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Sev6nWiki Sure! I am not very familiar with Commons (sorry). Thanks! Polygnotus (talk) 04:28, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Speedy delete and OS the damn things. It's insane that someone thought this was anything but an horrible idea. LilianaUwU (talk / contribs) 08:38, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Sev6nWiki: that pretty much eliminated any chance of solving this rapidly. - Jmabel ! talk 16:09, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
As an FYI to any commons admins, the original uploader of some of these files (Steven1991), was blocked on enWiki for harrassment late last year and had their email access revoked for continuing harassment there. Then, in April of this year, the block was assumed by the enWiki arbcom [1][2]. They have now also been blocked from simple under their onestrike rule, again for harassment, import disputes from enWiki, and original research.[3][4]. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 19:11, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I was thinking that too, but considering the nature of these files and the amount of people currently involved; a D.R request is the most appropriate consensus here. Sev6nWiki (talk) 09:19, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi. I uploaded the first two images, based on evidence cited by a reliable academic study of Wikipedia. -- I uploaded these images for an article about Wikipedia itself.
The other two images are different in their content and reliability.
It appears that three of the images are now combined into a single deletion discussion, which is unfortunate IMO though not insurmountable. In any case, I'm commenting here to state that I uploaded the first two images for a legit WP purpose and to disavow any improper usage. ProfGray (talk) 20:59, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@ProfGray, some questions for you:
  • On your enwiki user page, you state that you have an alternative account for "personal editing". Have you used that alternative account on Commons? If so, what account is it, and why have you not publicly connected it to your main account?
  • If the alt account is for personal editing, what is this account for? Are edits made with this account to be associated with your public persona as an academic?
  • Do you have any connection to User:Steven1991?
  • The three authors of Oboler et al are all associated with NGO Monitor, a right-wing Israeli organization; one was president when he wrote the paper. Given that, do you consider it a "reliable academic study"? Should its claims about edits be copied on Commons at face value?
  • The diff shown in File:Editing out the anti-Jewish critique of an NGO per Oboler et al 2010.png adds Conservative Israeli group NGO monitor as the source of a claim. The Oboler paper discusses this diff, but does not mention anything about this addition. How does that affect your opinion of the paper's reliability?

In response to #3: here they wrote Regarding your curiosity about me and Steven1991, I don't believe I know that user. Polygnotus (talk) 23:10, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Pi.1415926535, your last two bullet points are worth discussing for editing article content, but is this Admin Noticeboard the best venue for that? The first two points seem to be about my personal conduct, so I also wonder if appropriate or necessary. ProfGray (talk) 02:21, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I do consider your personal conduct in question here. You have used Commons as a venue to lob serious accusations at editors by uncritically repeating claims from an organization with a known bias. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 03:33, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Same photo uploaded by same account under different file names

File:Ann Bowling head shoulders for websites.jpg and File:Ann Bowling 2010 head and shoulders Gt Georges UoLME06654-1.jpg look like they're the same photo uploaded by the same account within 20 minutes of each other on the same day. Assuming the licensing is correct (I'm not sure about because of the EXIF data), it's unclear whether both files need to be kept, particularly since the "head and shoulders" one isn't currently being used anywhere. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:34, 9 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

We need confirmation that Mark Evenden and User:AnnQoLAge are the same person. The duplicate upload withing a short time is a common mistake. GPSLeo (talk) 11:43, 9 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

suspect AI contribution. maybe every upload should be deleted. GioviPen GP msg 22:43, 10 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

The ones here as Il Maglio might either be legitimate or might be AI-enhanced from legitimate but not terribly good images. Compare File:Francesco Filippini, Il Maglio, Pinacoteca di Brera.png. I don't know quite what we are dealing with here.
@GiovanniPen: did you make any effort to engage this user before deciding this is an administrative matter? - Jmabel ! talk 00:59, 11 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
This time no, I didnt. I faced this user because of scn:Vincenzo Petroccelli where the image (severals for different years) are clearly AI. GioviPen GP msg 06:49, 11 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@GiovanniPen you are supposed to inform the user at their talk page about this discussion per above. I have done it this time for you. Shaan SenguptaTalk 04:37, 11 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
thanks @Shaan Sengupta. Some images are clearly AI (maybe fully prompted):
for the others probably those are just enhanced or reprocessed... everything is unclear and undecleared... GioviPen GP msg 13:36, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I tagged all files with "no source". The current given source is clearly misleading. Yann (talk) 13:42, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

User has persistent copyfraud uploads

RBainbridge2000 (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log has uploaded several works with outright false claims of "own work" and some dubious or poorly-sourced information (e.g. putting "unknown" when the author is clear from the source provided). I have marked most of his uploads as {{Copyvio}} and I think this user could benefit from some guidance from an admin to not make up stuff. —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:23, 11 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I deleted some files, and send a strong warning. BTW this is not copyfraud. Only copyright violations. And this would be better on COM:ANU. Yann (talk) 18:42, 11 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Unless I'm missing something, A copyfraud is a false copyright claim by an individual or institution with respect to content that is in the public domain and this user has falsely claimed that he is the copyright owner of public domain photographs. Either way, I will use ANU for these general "user is very confused and needs guidance" style posts. —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:55, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
OK, some files uploaded by this user are by chance in the public domain. Others are simply under a copyright. We usually use "copyfraud" for institutions which claim a copyright on public domain works they host. Yann (talk) 19:37, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Meaningless files needing deletion

These files consist of personal photos which provide meaningless content of no value, I'm sure a formal D.R isn't necessary here.

File:Holychopped1012.jpg

File:Yuvan Morasini.jpg

File:Sanderini.jpg

File:PuffballPersuasive.jpg

Could an administrator delete these please? Thanks! Sev6nWiki (talk) 08:28, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Sev6nWiki you could have nominated them for speedy deletion per COM:OOS. Shaan SenguptaTalk 09:39, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
All of these files were uploaded by the same user, I would have otherwise opened a mass deletion request if the value of these files were not obvious enough already. Sev6nWiki (talk) 10:48, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
In such a case, just nominate them for speedy deletion (F10: Personal images by non-contributors). You can use Help:VFC to do it at once. Thanks, Yann (talk) 15:10, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't sure in this case. Thanks! Sev6nWiki (talk) 15:50, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Possibly overwritten file

File:1975 - Frank R. Fischl, Jr - Allentown PA.jpg was originally uploaded back in March 2018 as a black-and-white photo, but then the uploader updated it to a color version in May 2025. Not sure if the original source photo was in color or whether this is a colorized version, but in either case it seems like this might be a case of COM:OVERWRITE and the two files should be split. Minor color corrections generally don't require a split per se, but there's no mention of complete colorization in OVERWRITE. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:43, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Looks (badly) colorized. - Jmabel ! talk 21:57, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
If it's a colorized version, then perhaps it does need to be split since there could be a separate copyright associated with the colorization (I guess) since per the essay Commons:Colorization. In addition, the accuracy of the colorized version could be a potential issue from an encyclopedic standpoint; so, it seems better to have a black-and-white original version available for use. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:12, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
