In Britain cream cheese comes in 200 gramme packs and there is a difference in fat content of 100%and the salt content is ver y different. The British mix is also soft to make it easily spreadable due to the additives mixed into the cream cheese. Some American recipes require a type of flour which it is illegal to manufacture or sell or buy in the whole of Europe. There are other ingredients listed in many recipes which do not exist in shops in Britain. I have come across American recipes supposed to be made from scratch which state use a box of( brand name) choc cake mix and a packet of ( brand name) vanilla pudding mix and a can of ( brand name) frosting without even giving a weight. Looking on different sites gives different weights for cups of everything and since different countries have different cup sizes if you can’t tell which country the recipe comes from the quantities of ingredients become a lottery. Same applies to egg sizes. American large eggs are british medium egg size. An Australian tablespoon is 20 millilitres while in most countries a tablespoon is 15 millilitres. Flours vary considerably from country to country. Instructions to use setting 4 on a magi mix mean nothing if you haven’t got and are unfamiliar with magimix machines.
All recipes should be in weights and in S I units as quarts gallons ounces pints cups vary in different countries.
